Dog owners must leash their pets
Dear editor,
Recently while walking our dogs (on a municipally-mandated dog-leash), a mid-sized dog without a leash and its owner chose to confront my mild-mannered dogs while I was out for my evening walk in my neighbourhood.
This was a repeat of another dog-without-a-leash incident that occurred last year when the dog(s) bit my dog and my hand. That owner chose to ignore his responsibility in the matter.
Fast-forward to this evening when the owner of the dog-at-large was smiling and calmly telling the dog to ?retreat? and basically not doing anything.? Fortunately, the dog did not approach my dogs but rather circled them and kept barking.
How can this be still happening when clearly there is a municipal by-law that states dogs must be leashed on public property (if they cannot be controlled by the owner) and the owner is legally responsible for their behaviour?? Dog owners need to realize that their pet can be unpredictable and should be leashed for the protection of themselves and those around them.
Do the right thing and enjoy your pets while supervisng them while on your property? but on public property they must be leashed!
Responsible dog ownership is a privilege? NOT a right!
