ZTE's oddly named -- like most of its sets, honestly -- Mimosa X doesn't bring to mind bubbly champagne breakfast drinks, but it does have a glossy display and Android 4. Packing niceties such as a Tegra2 1.2Ghz processor, 4.3 qHD 960 x 540 display, 8-megapixel camera with 1080p vid recording capability, and HD voice it seems a pretty well aligned device as far as specs go. We immediately noticed that the housing quality is a little weak -- specifically the handset's textured rear -- though, we're hopeful that will be reflected in its sticker price. Speaking of pricing, nothing was mentioned, though we can look to this to land sometime in Q2.

Is vitamin D affected by heat? - PaleoHacks.com

The vitamins most depleted by heat are the water-soluble ones, namely C, & B vitamins. D belongs to a category of fat-soluble vitamins and so is more heat-stable; looking at studies on foods fortified with vitamin D (namely cheese), it was found that it was not significantly affected by heat (processes such as pasteurization and cooking). And, just on an aside, you cannot 'denature' a vitamin, since it isn't a protein, though denaturation of proteins can deplete some vitamins therein :-)

However, isolated vitamin D will definitely be more unstable: cholecalciferol (D3) is sensitive to UV light which makes it break down into sterols; it is also highly unstable at temperatures above 40 degrees Celcius and humidity above 45 % - storing at these conditions showed significant depletion and chemical degradation.

However, the vitamin D drops are not just pure Cholecalciferol; the vitamin is contained in some sort of base and the formula will definitely contain stabilisers and antioxidants which prevent degradation. So very much depends on the particular formula you are using: read the label/leaflet, perhaps there are recommendations on there - I think that if the manufacturer knew the formula was heat-sensitive there would be a warning on the bottle not to add to hot foods.

In general, I think its ok to add to cooked/warm/hot food - I found this - http://vitaminddrops.com/adult-faq.php - this is probably a different brand to which you are using, but it does say that the drops are ok to add to food & drink after cooking. Note that they recommend not to add it to raw food before cooking: fat-soluble vitamins are still depleted to an extent even when contained in whole foods; the isolated vitamin, even if it is protected by stabilisers, will be slightly more sensitive to heat, and so the quantity will decrease, and if you're taking a supplement, you want to know you're getting the full designated dose.

So stick to adding it after cooking to tolerably hot food (so I'd even recommend to wait for it to cool down to edible temperature if its piping hot, before adding the drops). And even though you supplement, do eat vitamin D -rich foods such as oily fish, and get as much sunlight as you can, since vitamins from whole foods are most effective than ones taken in isolation.

University student demands new attorney during trial

A University of Montana student on trial today for sexual abuse against children would not let proceedings go forth because he claimed his attorney hasn't followed his wishes.

Journalism student Shane Maxey, 28, read a statement during his trial today saying he wanted a plea agreement that fit the victimless crime and that his public defender Paulette Ferguson did not do as he had asked. He said he had wanted a non-jury trial in June 2011, a month after he was arrested, but it was scheduled for December.

"I'm not being properly defended by her, due to the fact that she has postponed my trial against my wishes and has left me in the dark about knowing what's going on in my case," Maxey said.

District Court Judge John Larson recessed the trial so Ferguson could call the head of the public defender's office to find someone else to represent Maxey, but the request was not made with enough notice to bring a new attorney into the trial the same day. Larson vacated the trial so Maxey could decide who will represent him. Maxey is now back in the Missoula County Jail.

Police arrested Maxey in May after a four month long sting operation where a police officer posed as a 14-year-old girl online. Maxey offered to meet the the person he believed to be a young girl several times for sex, according to court documents. Before going to the South Russell Street Albertsons to meet the "girl" Maxey allegedly turned his webcam on and showed his genitals.

Maxey was out jail on pretrial supervision this fall and had been enrolled in University classes, until Dec. 23 when he was sent back to jail for communicating online to the same detective that had stung Maxey in May, court documents state.

Maxey's public defender would not comment about the case.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) ? Lashing out on two fronts, Rick Santorum on Saturday questioned President Barack Obama's Christian values and attacked GOP rival Mitt Romney's Olympics leadership as he courted tea party activists and evangelical voters in Ohio, "ground zero" in the 2012 nomination fight.

Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator known for his social conservative views, said Obama's agenda is based on "some phony theology. Not a theology based on the Bible. A different theology." He later suggested that the president practices a different kind of Christianity.

"In the Christian church there are a lot of different stripes of Christianity," he said. "If the president says he's a Christian, he's a Christian."

The Obama campaign said the comments represent "the latest low in a Republican primary campaign that has been fueled by distortions, ugliness, and searing pessimism and negativity."

Santorum was forced on his heels in recent days after a top supporter suggested women use aspirin to prevent pregnancy.

In Ohio, a Super Tuesday prize, he shifted decidedly to offense before friendly crowds. Trailing Romney in money and campaign resources, Santorum is depending on the tea party movement and religious groups to deliver a victory March 6 in the Midwestern contest.

More delegates will be awarded in Ohio than in any other state except Georgia in the opening months of the Republican campaign. Ohio and Georgia are two of the 10 contests scheduled for March 6, a benchmark for the primary campaign that often decides who can continue to the next level.

Santorum has surged in recent opinion polls after capturing Republican caucuses in Minnesota and Colorado and a non-binding primary in Missouri on Feb. 7. Several polls have shown him ahead in Romney's native state of Michigan, where primary voters cast ballots a week from Tuesday.

Obama's campaign team has responded by starting to consider the possibility that Santorum rather than Romney could be the Republican nominee. The Chicago-based organization has begun scrutinizing Santorum's past record and asked its Pennsylvania allies to look for information that might be used against Santorum in future ads and speeches.

Even as he criticized Obama, Santorum also went after one of Romney's most promoted achievements ? his leadership at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

"One of Mitt Romney's greatest accomplishments, one of the things he talks about most is how he heroically showed up on the scene and bailed out and resolved the problems of the Salt Lake City Olympic Games," Santorum said. "He heroically bailed out the Salt Lake City Olympic Games by heroically going to Congress and asking them for tens of millions of dollars to bail out the Salt Lake games ? in an earmark, in an earmark for the Salt Lake Olympic games."

The Romney campaign does not dispute that congressional earmarks helped save the games. But they noted that Santorum voted for those earmarks, among many others, when he was a senator.

"Sometimes when you shoot from the hip, you end up shooting yourself in the foot," Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul said. "There is a pretty wide gulf between seeking money for post-9/11 security at the Olympics and seeking earmarks for polar bear exhibits at the Pittsburgh Zoo."

Santorum used a later appearance before the Ohio Christian Alliance to go after Romney for using his financial advantage as "as a club to beat anyone who gets in his way." But he saved his most pointed criticism for Obama, suggesting that the Democratic president's health care overhaul encouraged abortions by requiring insurance plans to cover prenatal screenings.

"It saves money in health care. Why? Because free pre-natal testing ends up in more abortions and therefore less care that has to be done because we cull the ranks of the disabled from our society," Santorum said. "That too is part of ObamaCare. Another hidden message as to what Obama thinks of those who are less able than the elites who want to govern our country."

Santorum planned to finish his day in Akron before heading to Georgia on Sunday. While 63 delegates are at stake in Ohio, Georgia offers 76.

"There's no state that can shout louder. You are the biggest state. You've got the biggest trove of delegates," Santorum told the Brown County Republican Party on Friday night. "This is ground zero. Ohio."

Questions about whether Santorum can sustain his rise in the polls come amid signs of stress within his campaign, mainly disorganization. Romney's machine, coupled with new scrutiny for Santorum's view of social issues as well as governmental policies, will give Santorum little margin for error.

As an example, one misstep by a Santorum supporter kept the former senator off message at times for two days.

Foster Friess, the main donor behind Santorum's "super PAC," created a stir Thursday when he related on MSNBC an old joke about how aspirin used to be a method for birth control. "Back in my days, they used Bayer aspirin for contraception," Friess said with a grin. "The gals put it between their knees and it wasn't that costly."

Friess apologized Friday in a blog post. But Santorum was repeatedly forced to distance himself from his surrogate's comments, which Santorum described as "a bad joke." The comments drew unwanted attention to Santorum's own musings about contraception and women's issues.

"Santorum has been in the position of explaining on all of these issues. And when you're explaining in politics, you're losing," said Phil Musser, a GOP strategist who doesn't work for either campaign.

Freelance Writers Who Succeded Without The Internet | The WM ...

Last week we read the stories and tips of freelance writers who became successful without the help of courses or books?even if they were available at the time. Experiences shaped their lessons, and and they learned well.

I decided to feature three stories of freelance writers who learned and grew without the aid of any of the instant communication and efficient transportation devices we have today. Why?

It?s more than an attempt to show you that if they could do it, you could certainly do it. It?s not just a ?look back.?

When you read these stories, you?ll find tips and practices that are just as successful now as they were then?and perhaps moreso, since they?re becoming just rare enough to give you a unique head start.

I sold my first article in 1977, when I was a senior in college, and loved being paid $1 a word. My first ?client? was? my eye doctor, who sent me a follow-up thank-you letter that was so terrible I told him I could do much better. He paid me $100 to write three letters for his business. Soon after that I joined a local networking group. I was the only woman in?the group, but by the time I moved from Houston, I had worked with and for each one of them, and they had referred me to others.

Bit by bit, I began branching out and seeking out other businesses and clients who needed to improve their communications. A friend of mine edited a women?s magazine and offered me a few assignments, so when those were published I had clips to send to other magazines with queries, which led to many articles and opportunities.

I?ve received letters from many writers through the years in response to short notes I?ve sent them complimenting them on their work. Frequently those ?fan letters? have led to writing assignments. I interviewed a Grammy-winning composer after singing one of his pieces and writing him a letter. The article was published in Chorus America. I met and interviewed a well-known screenwriter and novelist after reading a book of his that I loved; that piece was published in a literary journal and is cited among the several works written about his career.

Finally, my former husband (also a writer) and I are co-authoring a book on parenting after divorce. I have already published the first chapter, ?The Ten Commandments of Co-Parenting.? We have an agent.

I?learned that there is a market for good writing about anything. A successful freelancer will become an expert in one thing and write for many markets about that person/subject or branch out and experience many things, writing and publishing about them whenever and wherever possible. That?s how a small business is built.

I write regularly for Hearst?s Fairfield County and Albany, New York areas. My column appears twice a month, and my gardening articles appear once a month in their regional magazine, Life @ Home. Once an article appears, I always jot a note of thanks to the editor, or whomever I?ve worked with on the piece. In my thank-you note, I often mention an idea for the next article; this sometimes gives me a head start.

4. Win additional assignments on new topics.
5. Own another of those topics. That?s how to get from, for example, a technical topic (your core expertise) to travel writing (not your core expertise and highly competitive).

Now he thinks that he has the best job ever, and that?s not to mention all the travelling involved.

?Filmmaking is the biggest art form ever, because it combines all art forms into one.

He has been touted as a super talented filmmaker, and he defends his trade.

?I have to do something that I know that no one can do better than me. I don?t think any filmmaker is whack, but I think that everyone?s perspective is unique? That being said I know that Steven Spielberg can?t make a film they way I would and that makes me unique in my own way.?

Though he is better known for music videos; Clarence says he has done some short films and advertisements and it?s not only about music videos.

?Filmmaking ministers to me. I have been broken up with several times and I have broken up with people several times. To have people act out such emotion and seeing it come to life, that?s what I love about film. That?s why it?s in my blood.?

Clarence was in Kenya recently ? for the second time ? to shoot a host of music videos, primarily the theme song for MTV drama Shuga: Love, Sex, Money which featured Boneye from P-Unit, Nigerian musicians Banky W and Wizkid and South African rapper L-Tido among others.

The Shuga track was shot at SkyLux Lounge, Kimathi Street and the Tribe Hotel.

The first video he ever came to shoot was the ever popular Party Don?t Stop by Camp Mulla.

Clarence says his dream one day is to shoot a film in Kenya.

New Obama plan to help math, science teacher prep

WASHINGTON (AP) ? President Barack Obama called on Tuesday for millions of dollars in new funding to improve math and science education, an effort he said would be crucial to the nation's long-term success.

Obama said his upcoming budget proposal, set to be released next week, would include a request for $80 million from Congress for a new Education Department competition to support math and science teacher preparation programs. Obama made a similar request to Congress last year but the measure didn't pass.

Separately, he announced $22 million in investments from the private sector to support math and science efforts. Among the organizations committing fresh funding are Google and the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

Obama said a renewed focus on math and science education should be an American imperative.

"The belief that we belong on the cutting edge of innovation, that's an idea as old as America itself," Obama said. "We're a nation of thinkers, dreamers, believers in a better tomorrow."

Obama has set a goal of preparing more than 100,000 math and science teachers and training a million additional math, technology, engineering and science graduates over the next decade.

Seeking to highlight the benefits of math and science education, Obama hosted a White House science fair earlier Tuesday, featuring projects designed by over 100 students from across the country. The projects included a robot that helps senior citizens connect with their families via Skype and a portable disaster relief shelter that could be used to house people who have been displaced from their homes.

"It's not every day you have robots running all over your house," Obama said of the science fair. "I'm trying to figure out how you got through the metal detectors."

The president said the students participating in the science fair were an inspiration, and made him confident that the nation's best days were yet to come.

"You're getting America in shape to win the future," Obama said.

Five killer whales 'sue' SeaWorld

Five killer whales have been named as plaintiffs in a lawsuit which argues they deserve the same constitutional protection from slavery as humans.

A US judge is considering a complant by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' (Peta) against SeaWorld.

It is reportedly the first time a US court has heard legal arguments over whether animals should enjoy the same constitutional protections as humans.

SeaWorld's legal team said the case was a waste of time and resources.

The marine park's lawyer, Theodore Shaw, told the court in San Diego: "Neither orcas nor any other animal were included in the 'We the people'... when the Constitution was adopted."

He said that if the case were successful, it could have implications not just on how other marine parks or zoos operate, but even on the police use of sniffer dogs to detect bombs and drugs.

'Historic case'

Peta says the killer whales are treated like slaves for being forced to live in tanks and perform daily at the SeaWorld parks in California and Florida.

It is not considered likely that the whales will win their freedom, but campaigners said they were pleased the case even made it to a courtroom.

The lawsuit invokes the 13th Amendment to the constitution, which abolished "slavery or involuntary servitude" in the US.

Jeffrey Kerr, the lawyer representing the five whales, said: "For the first time in our nation's history, a federal court heard arguments as to whether living, breathing, feeling beings have rights and can be enslaved simply because they happen to not have been born human.

"By any definition these orcas have been enslaved here."

Hearing the arguments for about an hour, US District Judge Jeffrey Miller raised concerns over whether animals could be represented as plaintiffs in a lawsuit.

He will issue a ruling at a later date.

Peta names the five wild-captured orca plaintiffs as Tilikum and Katina, at SeaWorld Orlando; and Kasatka, Corky, and Ulises, at SeaWorld San Diego.

It is not Tilikum's first time in the media spotlight - he drowned his trainer before horrified spectators in February 2010, prompting a ban on the Florida park's employees entering the water to perform tricks with the orcas.

The same whale has also been linked to two other deaths.
