Now this is The Scrap Review. ?We review paper crafting products right? ?Well we do. ?Today, however I wanted to venture a tad bit away from that. ?Why you ask? ?Well let me tell you. ?I am an avid reader. ?I can devour a book in mere hours. ?I kid you not. ?So when I find a book that is good, I am going to tell everyone. ?I will tell my friends, family and anyone who asks. ? In this case I found a book that is superb. ?It has a scrapbook that is prominent in the telling of the story which makes it easy for me to tell you here. ? So let's get started.
When I get a new book, I dig in. ?I do that. ?I sequester myself in my room (whenever possible with 5 children in the house) and get to it. ?This was no exception.
From the back cover:
Campbell Carter has come to Sweethaven in search of answers about her mother's history.
Just before losing a battle with caner, Suzanne Carter wrote letters to childhood friends from her hometown of Sweethaven, Michigan. ?Suzanne's three friends- Lila, Jane and Meghan-haven't spoken in years, yet each has pieces of a scrapbook they made together as girls. ?The letters have lured them all back to the idyllic lakeside town, where they meet Suzanne's daughter, Campbell, and begin to remember what was so special about their long Sweethaven summers. ?
With the help of a handsome local man and her mother's three friends, Campbell hopes to finally uncover her mother's twenty-five year old secret. ?In the process, she discovers a family she never knew she had and the home she's always wanted.?
As the women connect over the pages of the old scrapbook, wounds are mended, lives are changed, and friendships are restored- just as Suzanne intended.
As I started this book the characters began to unfold. ?They were beautifully crafted. ?The kind of characters that you want to know in real life. ?The kind that remind you of your best friend. ?The kind you learn to love and care about. ?The kind you laugh and cry for. ? The kind that make your heart squeeze at those tender moments. ?To me this made the book. ?Each character had background. ?They had depth and feeling. ?They had their own lives but were each connected through this scrapbook.
Through this book and the characters in it there is love, there is loss and there is forgiveness. ?Read this book and you will not regret the wonderful time it took.
What do you think? ?Are you a reader or are you a watch the movie kind? ?Leave a comment by midnight EST on Thursday to be entered to win your very own copy of A Sweethaven Summer!! ?U.S. Residents Only.
