Cruising Through Paris On Barge Holidays In France

When it comes to barge holidays, France doesn't inevitably have to conjure up images of quiet, rural backwaters (although there is plenty of that!). Its also possible to take a hotel barging tour through the very heart of Paris.

Hotel barging and Paris

Its possible that you picture barging to consist largely of drifting slowly down sun-soaked rivers in quiet rural areas, passing through idyllic towns and villages. Of course, on barge holidays, France can offer exactly that; but it also offers potentially much, much more.

Few people would dispute that Paris is a magical city and one of the most beautiful in the world. Attractions such as the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Montmartre with its Sacre Coeur plus many others, are virtually legendary though the reality doesnt disappoint. Unfortunately, like most major cities, the roads surrounding it can be exceptionally busy and getting from the outskirts into the centre can be a challenge, often involving some level of stress and delays. There is an alternative though, and that involves bringing rural tranquillity right into the heart of Paris with you on a hotel barge!

Paris and its surrounding waterways

Most people know that Paris is divided by The Seine a stunningly beautiful river that flows past many of its major attractions. Yet what is less well-known is that in past centuries the kings and nobility built canals to link Paris to many other major French waterways, for reasons of trade and the economy.

What that means is that its now possible to take a luxurious waterways trip from beautiful rivers and canals to the north, east or south, and join the Seine to take you right into the very heart of Paris.

For barge holidays, France offers an entirely new dimension with this aspect of direct access to Paris. Its now perfectly possible to mix a superb and very tranquil hotel barging experience in the heart of magical regions such as Burgundy, together with a visit to one of the worlds greatest cities.

What are the practical attractions?

For a start, spending hours in traffic trying to get into or out of the city centre will be something you can leave to others to worry about. Your hotel barge will deliver you directly, in incredible comfort, right into the centre of Paris. Then, a small minibus or similar transport will whisk you directly to those sights youre interested in or, of course, you can walk or use the Metro. Those things dont even take into account, though, the sheer magical wonder of watching sites such as Notre Dame drift by your boat as you cruise along. Once you have seen the major attractions, you can simply cruise back out of Paris again towards the rural charm the country is so famous for.

On barge holidays, France will constantly surprise and delight you and hotel barge cruises to Paris are yet another dimension to consider.
